We must consider the subject of birth control according to what God says on the matter. I Timothy 5:8 tells us that parents must provide for their children. This includes properly caring for and supporting their children until they reach maturity. Couples should not have children unless and until they are able to do this. If they are unable to properly care for them, they must consider some form of controlling pregnancies.
Husbands must also consider the welfare of their wives (Eph. 5:25). This responsibility includes proper planning of children, so that adequate and sufficient time is allowed between births. It can be draining to the mother—both physically and emotionally—if she has more children than she is able to or prepared for.
Whatever type of birth control a couple chooses is a matter of personal choice between them. There are many methods available today. One must investigate as to which method suits their individual needs or circumstances. Some methods are good and reliable, while others are not so good and therefore undependable. Some are temporary and still others are permanent. Each couple should consider their own circumstances.
Please consider: Once a woman becomes pregnant, there is no alternative but to carry the pregnancy to term. That unborn child is now considered a life—a potential child of God.
