You have reached the portion of our website explaining the apostasy of the Worldwide Church of God (WCG). Start here if you do NOT have a WCG background.
Founder and Pastor General of The Restored Church of God, Editor-in-Chief of The Real Truth magazine, and voice of The World to Come program, David C. Pack has reached many millions around the globe with the most powerful truths of the Bible—unknown to almost all. He has authored 80 books and booklets, personally established over 50 congregations, and appeared as a guest on The History Channel. Mr. Pack attended Ambassador College in Pasadena, California, entered the Worldwide Church of God ministry in 1971, and was personally trained by its founder, Herbert W. Armstrong.Learn more
“The Greatest Work Lies JUST Ahead…”
By David C. Pack
NOTICE: This is the SEVENTH in a series of special announcements. They collectively unveil the massive, ongoing expansion that God’s Church, Work and Headquarters are experiencing. There is a reason for this expansion! The reader should contrast these announcements to the increasing bad news and bad events in UCG, LCG, PCG, COGwa and ALL splinters and slivers of the Worldwide Church of God. You must see what they are NOT announcing, and why they never will—and what GOD is bringing upon them. The place to start reading is either the fifth announcement—“God’s People Back Together—SOON!”—or the first one to catch up on all you have missed. If you begin with the fifth announcement, then read those before and after it. They are all important. An enormous and detailed prophecy is now being carried out by God. He is preparing events to soon bring His people back together—all of them. It is not my task to convince you the prophecy is true. God will do that! My job is to systematically lay out the specifics of what will happen and WHY—good and bad, pleasant and unpleasant. YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MISS A SINGLE ANNOUNCEMENT! If you do, CATCH UP. Also, you will miss the full impact if you skip sections of these announcements.
This SIXTEENTH Friday announcement is shorter than most others. It reveals the coming SIZE and SCOPE of the final Work of God before Christ returns! A few background paragraphs set up powerful announcements you will read momentarily.
Those who are reading these special weekly announcements understand that only a few groups—perhaps four—are making any real attempt at doing God’s Work. However sincere, we saw from Haggai that these are merely doing works of men, not directed by the living Christ who only heads and works through His government and His Church. Also not teaching God’s full truth to the world, these “houses” of men are doing their own “works”—NOT God’s. This is about to change in a BIG WAY! When God dissolves the splinters, combining all resources, HIS ensuing Work will be ENORMOUS—beyond imagination!
Most of God’s people remember Mr. Armstrong repeating often, “God’s Church must preach the gospel and do the Work until Christ returns.” It is no surprise then that most brethren choose to attend splinters doing some kind of “work.” This “we-are-doing-something” pattern of the bigger groups has lulled thousands into believing they are continuing—participating in—the Great Commission as Mr. Armstrong taught it. They are not (or even close), but this will soon change for thousands of brethren. The apostle Paul foretold a closing “short work” (Rom. 9:28), and God’s ONE Church will complete it!
All the big splinters do not grasp the colossal importance of what is at stake in the true Work of God today. Only one or two organizations even begin to remember, let alone comprehend, that a powerful warning must reach 600 million Israelites throughout many nations and territories before the Tribulation strikes. The “spirit of error” (I John 4:6) so active in all the groups is why so many now believe, for instance, that giving to disaster funds and relief efforts is the more “loving,” “compassionate” and “Christ-like” approach to gaining “disciples.” WARNINGS (certainly strong ones) are “too harsh.”
Ponder the following. Mr. Armstrong has been gone for over 27 years. Earth’s population has grown 44 percent—from under 4.9 billion in 1986 to 7.1 billion today! Then realize that today’s Israelite nations are also much larger than in early 1986. In 2006, the United States reached 300 million, and this just 39 years after reaching 200 million (1967). Under 240 million when Mr. Armstrong died, it is 315 million today, an increase of over 75 million—just in the United States.
Let’s go further. An entire generation has died since the last true warning went to the peoples who heard and read Mr. Armstrong. And therefore incredibly great numbers were not yet born. Those who were alive, but under age 20, did not grasp any message or warning they might have heard. Thus, the GREAT MAJORITY TODAY have never been warned of what is in store for the descendants of all 12 tribes of Israel! Hundreds of millions simply have no idea what is coming on our lands, and on our peoples! Nor have they heard the awesome truth of the gospel of the kingdom of God.
What Mr. Armstrong Taught About a Final, Great REPEAT Work
Mr. Armstrong knew he could die before Christ returned. His last co-worker letters were written with this reality heavy on his mind. He knew that a faithful Church would continue preaching God’s coming kingdom and warning Israel up to the start of the Great Tribulation. Quoted often—but so little believed and understood!—notice again Mr. Armstrong’s final letter to the Church (italics his):
“This is my first letter to you in 1986, and could very well be my last. It may be that the Work God has given me to do is complete, but not the Work of God’s Church, which will be faithfully doing God’s Work till Christ, the True Head of this Church, returns.
“Remember, brethren, this is not the work of Herbert W. Armstrong…or any man. It is the Work of the Living Creator, God…The greatest work lies yet ahead.”
Co-Worker Letter, Jan. 10, 1986
Believing the last phrase to be impossible today, and that Mr. Armstrong “really meant” the work of “getting the Bride ready,” this statement has been largely discounted or forgotten. Also, his onetime personal assistant loves to declare, “I wrote it for him,” as though Mr. Armstrong could not stop him from what he never intended be written.
The following is a recounting of an extraordinary conversation (several hours duration) that Mr. Dale Schurter and his wife had with Mr. Armstrong less than a year before his death in January 1986. It confirms Mr. Armstrong’s belief that God’s Church would later do an even BIGGER WORK—that it would “prophesy again” fulfilling Revelation 10:11:
“A few months before Mr. Armstrong’s death, my wife and I had the opportunity to spend several hours with Mr. Armstrong in his home in Pasadena. He spoke freely of the mighty work God had commissioned him to accomplish, and related certain heartfelt comments: ‘I can say that I have finished the work God has given me to do, and am at peace about it. I have preached and taken the Gospel of the Kingdom of God into all the world as a witness to all nations.’
“Mr. Armstrong went on to say, ‘I have come to realize there will be an even greater work to follow—to go again, to “prophesy again” to all nations tongues and peoples (Rev. 10:11) before the work of the two witnesses—but with more power and with a stronger warning message. But that will be for others to do.’ He continued, ‘It will be a short work (Rom. 9:27-29), compared with the longer time to complete the work I was given, and it will be cut short. That’s when the Great Tribulation will begin, as will the work of the two witnesses. These will last for three and one-half years, at the end of which Christ will return in glory.’”
Mr. Armstrong initially believed that he fulfilled Revelation 10:11—“prophesy again”—when he went to the world a “second time” to “peoples, and nations, and tongues and kings” in the period after his heart attack in August 1977. He grew out of the thinking that he “prophesied again.” His last letter to the Church and the conversation with Mr. Schurter demonstrate this. He certainly never believed for a moment that the Church should turn inward and focus on itself—merely getting ITSELF ready (for the Wedding Supper). This was the direction Joseph Tkach took the Church. Those who still think this way agree with JOE TKACH, not Mr. Armstrong!
Long before this story was recounted to me in December 2011 by Mr. Schurter, I had already been preaching for almost five years that Revelation 10:11 had not been fulfilled, and that The Restored Church of God was carrying it out. An entire chapter of my book The Work of God—Its Final Chapter!, greatly expanded in early 2007, included this understanding. This book also makes plain all the reasons the Work would one day grow to gigantic proportions. Of course, I did not then fully see HOW this would happen, but I knew it would. Haggai’s prophecy (plus other things) revealed HOW.
The Greek for again in Revelation 10:11 means “anew, back, once more, furthermore, again.” Therefore, the whole process would have to be started “anew” and the entire commission must occur “AGAIN”—that a final servant and Work must go “back, once more.” This is happening!
Mr. Armstrong warned the modern nations of Israel, took the true gospel to all nations (in seven languages), and met with over one-third of the world’s heads of state. It is this pattern that must be fulfilled AGAIN. It is no surprise then that we continue with unprecedented momentum, unseen in the splinters, individually or collectively. Doors are opening again in sudden and unexpected places. In fact, rapidly unfolding events confirm in undeniable ways that doors to national leaders are also opening a second time, as any number of heads of state are now known to be reading The Real Truth magazine. We see their names come through. We can ask: How soon before personal contact with world leaders?
All Competition Will Be Stopped
Some former members of the Worldwide Church of God realize that with God’s people divided, a powerful Work is impossible. But they also realize a huge Work SHOULD be done. The many “Church of God” groups that formed after the apostasy have only served to confuse brethren about where God is working. These competing organizations also confuse those God is calling out of the world. Here is the tiniest smattering of daily emails showing the problem (emphasis theirs):
(#1) “I’m confused! This site is so much like Tomorrow’s World which I think is sponsored by the Living Church Of God. I have their lessons and have…received several of their booklets. I am sure that they are not in conflict with your materials…I am the only SDA [Seventh-Day Adventist] in my family.”
(#2) “I was called in May of 1986 after Mr. Armstrong died...so I know the work is not over...the end time disasters and disease epidemics are starting to happen!! The Church that our Creator founded has never went away…So why do the leaders of ALL the so called splinter groups not have the FAITH and humbleness to WORK TOGETHER as ONE??”
(#3) “For 12 years I had been receiving PCOG [Philadelphia Church of God] material, then I discovered UCG/RCG/LCG. I am confused greatly over which COG to follow. Please help me. Thank you.”
(#4) “I listen to your broadcast most every [Sunday] and agree with much of what you say. I also listen to Gerald Flurry and Roderick Meredith. Since you are all followers of Herbert W. Armstrong, why are you all not in the same organization?”
(#5) “I was a member of [the WCG]. I have been praying for so long for God to show me the true Church out of all these splinter groups. I was a member of COG-PKG [Ron Weinland] until about 8 months ago. I left there for multiple reasons. I am so confused, every time I think about finding the true Church I remember Mr. Armstrong saying in so many sermons hold on to what you know. I feel like my time is short to find the true Church. So many are trying to deceive and I don’t want to be one of those who realize too late that I did not find the true Church of God. I happened upon your site by accident while googling Mr. Weinland’s site. I saw your article on his false prophecy. Could this be the end of my search? I have ordered some literature and will be studying. As the years go by I find it harder and harder to hold on to what I knew from Mr. Armstrong. I will continue to pray for God to lead me in the right direction. I pray it is God that has led me to your site.”
(#6) “I am wondering why and how all the splinter groups from [the WCG] happened? Wondering how a real Church of God could be going through such a widespread apostasy? What are the differences between each of these splinter groups, like the UCG, LCG, etc. I have read material and teachings from these two splinter groups for several years and have more recently discovered RCG’s website and teachings. I am wondering what the difference[s] are?…”
(#7) “I’ve been following LCG’s website Tomorrow’s World for about 2 years now. I never became a member but I do believe in the Holy Days, the Sabbath and try to follow God’s laws as the Bible states. Recently, I came across your website and I have been on the balance on which is the True Church. I want to follow the Church that God built in the Bible. I don’t want to be incorrect about a very serious matter such as this. How does one become a member of the Church and are there any churches located in the [city] area? Also, how do I determine if RCG or LCG is the church to follow?”
(#8) “…I have been studying for about the past two years. I know in Matthew 16:18 Christ said ‘And I say also to you, That you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’ I want to have God in my life again. I attended the Worldwide Church of God until they went away from the true doctrine…But I’m having a problem on which church is right. I have been studying literature from the Philadelphia Church of God, Living Church of God, United Church of God, and your church. I’m confused on which church is right. Christ said ‘By their fruits you will know them.’ But every time I read something from each church I think that is the right church. I want to attend services and give my life to God, but I need to know which church is the true church. Thank you.”
This final example brings a bigger picture of the confusing message now being sent to those in the world:
(#9) “I have been a follower of this movement since the seventies and have great respect for the things Mr. Armstrong taught. I presently have a number of his books…My concern is—if the mother Church is/or was the WCG, and this church spawned children (even though called by different names, like most children), why can’t these offsprings of the mother Church, get along? If the churches that supposedly support Armstrong teachings, and biblical teachings, can’t walk together in some kind of unity, then what message does that send to the world that desperately needs this message?
“If each splinter group claims the mantle of Armstrong, then how can there be unity? I understand some of the differences in doctrine, but there is also a lot of unity of belief between these churches. What would Armstrong think of the mess these churches are today?
“For myself, I have gotten great things out of your Church, the PCOG, and the United COG. I can go to either church and get the fundamentals of what was originally taught in the mother Church. For me to pit one against the other would be wrong. I would like to commit myself to one of these churches, but don’t want to get into a war with the other churches out there.
“Any thoughts on this matter? I am praying for a solution.”
These emails demonstrate the sad, divided condition of God’s people after the apostasy. Frankly, such emails are time consuming (and unending) to deal with. However the splinter ministers might have wished for this to end, they also will no longer have to work under these conditions. The prophecy in Haggai plainly reveals that the competition—the confusing opposing works being done in other “houses”—will soon be forcibly STOPPED. Mercifully, this will happen SOON! Let me repeat: ALL SUCH COMPETITION TO GOD’S WORK WILL CEASE! And in fact it must for that Work to be properly carried out and finished!
Powerful Work ALREADY Underway!
The Work of God’s Church is today—already!—beyond the impact of the splinter “houses”—and by far! For instance, thousands are reading our material every week in individual nations and territories barely touched in the 20th century. Most do not know these kinds of facts (and many others like them) because top leaders in the big organizations make sure to suppress this knowledge, else people would know how puny and wasted are their efforts, and after so long a time. What is already happening in The Restored Church of God is in many ways without parallel ever!
Let’s look. First, a vast library of high quality literature already exists—more than all the other groups put together, and again by far. (And we produce our material in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Afrikaans, Dutch and Chinese.) Very powerful and effective infrastructure (including all key departments and divisions of the Work) is also already in place, and far beyond anything the splinters even dream about! Consider. A staff of over 90 (over 100 by September, and ready to grow much larger quickly), multiple buildings (soon), highly sophisticated internal systems, and much more, are in place. And we have already built: a significant and growing field ministry, an extensive training center (Ambassador Center) to develop ministers and Headquarters leaders, a large summer camp, three four-color magazines, a television program paralleling The World Tomorrow broadcast now around the world and available online, Feast sites on every continent and annual “Behind the Work” Feast films to keep brethren inspired and on the same page (and, because Christ heads this Church, they are “light years” better than splinter “productions”). Finally, the same pattern of progressive innovation and cutting edge technology are explored and quickly implemented to do God’s Work—and so much, much more.
All of this is just the beginning of what we know will soon be done—AND FAST. Think. Once God’s people are all in one organization, how much more powerful will be the Work? We can ask: Looking back someday, how big will have been God’s Work that it will eventually be “hated of all nations” (Matt. 24:9)? Let’s expand our minds…
VASTLY Greater Work Ahead!
At the outset, I mentioned a series of thrilling announcements would close this announcement. You may choose to believe them or reject them—but THEY WILL HAPPEN!
Let’s ponder for a moment. Reunification obviously means ONE organization doing ONE Work. This means all redundancy will disappear. First, it means God’s blessings will be on all ministers and brethren doing His Work. Next it means the literature of the other groups will be immediately RETIRED. The combined resources of the big organizations—brethren, staff, ministers, assets and funding—will be POOLED. God’s Plan specifically includes this. (Other details about what else this means, in areas of the Church not directly part of the Work, will be covered in a later announcement.)
The World to Come telecast, already blanketing the world and rapidly expanding, will much further explode in scope and viewership. Think. Most (or all) television contracts now held by the splinters will shift to us because Tomorrow’s World (LCG), Beyond Today (UCG), and The Key of David (PCG) will also be immediately RETIRED! (Believe this!)
The Real Truth magazine subscription list will begin sprinting toward multiple millions. This will be in part because Tomorrow’s World (LCG), The Good News (UCG) and The Trumpet (PCG) magazines will also be immediately RETIRED. (And believe this!) This alone will probably quickly generate great numbers of subscribers looking for where to turn. They will find something stronger and uncompromising has supplanted what got mothballed. Of course, the number of magazines distributed in the Newsstand Distribution Program will skyrocket because of much greater funding.
Powerful Public Bible Lectures will be held worldwide. Our websites will become the biggest thing in religion online that the world has ever seen. Internet advertising will multiply to awesome proportion. So will large newspaper ads. The list of how the Work will grow bigger could go on and on. (The serious reader will want to take a moment to study Matthew 22:1-14 and Luke 14:16-24 in this new context. Related parables there describe a time just before Christ’s Return, and clearly after the Haggai prophecy is fulfilled, when God’s Church will “go into the highways and byways” and the Bible uses the word “compel” people to come so His “House may be filled.”)
A brief inset. No doubt many are today thinking (particularly splinter ministers) “The gall of Dave Pack. How could he possibly believe we will come to his church? Who does he think he is?!” The answer is: I certainly did not (and could not) dream up the understanding of the Haggai prophecy—meaning its obviously only correct explanation (and other incredible verses will be explained). What you have been reading are not my ideas. The article “ALL God’s People Back Together—SOON!” does not express my opinions. One with an even half open mind can see that article is demonstrably provable—that this understanding comes entirely from GOD’S WORD! Who agrees or disagrees—likes or doesn’t like me—is not relevant in the slightest. These things are going to happen. God recorded that they would almost 2,500 years ago. And finally, besides not being a prophet, I did not pick myself to explain these things to the returning remnant (and you), GOD did! And more explanation will follow each week—some of it VERY STRONG MATERIAL!
The Restored Church of God is continuing what I have long called “The Grand Pattern.” This involves not just prophesying again, but upholding many other elements of the extraordinary, God-inspired pattern carried out under Mr. Armstrong. These other central aspects of the Worldwide Church of God helped do an immense Work—the full truth, godly traditions, proper standards, right policies and correct judgments, in addition to our Ambassador Center, summer camp, general conferences and magnificent world headquarters campus. (Note that The Restored Church of God campus will encompass the best elements of Pasadena, Bricketwood and Big Sandy when complete in less than two years. We now watch it happening daily from inside our new Hall of Administration.)
With ALL competition gone, The Restored Church of God will be the instrument through which Almighty God does “again” the Work accomplished under Mr. Armstrong’s leadership—and will thus be the only organization finishing God’s Work. May God help you see your potential role in this effort. Some in the “houses” have read these Friday announcements and already come with us as a direct result. (In fact, we just grew in numeric attendance by a greater amount in May than the United Church of God announced it grew in the last 12 months.) Do not miss your chance to be part of what God is doing. And do not miss next week’s announcement! It is every bit as exciting as this one.
