Subscribe NowCatholic Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo, Vatican secretary for relations with states, arrived in Moscow last week to hold talks with the Russian government, the Orthodox Church and the local Catholic community.
The visit is in part a response to an invitation extended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergej Lavrov, who visited the Vatican earlier this year, and is expected to improve cultural relations between the two states.
The trip is also intended to express the Pope’s desire to improve relations with the Russian Church to “give common witness to the Gospel.”
Considering the Vatican’s increase in socio-religious-diplomatic relations, could it all be the groundwork for something just ahead?
