A 2005 study conducted by the American Community Survey found that 49.7% of households in the U.S. consist of married couples, down from last year, and lower than the 50.3% that are unmarried.
Utah had the highest percentage of married couples, while the District of Columbia had the largest percentage of unmarried adults.
