Jesus said, “I will build My Church…” There is a single organization that teaches the entire truth of the Bible, and is called to live by “every word of God.” Do you know how to find it? Christ said it would:

  • Teach “all things” He commanded
  • Have called out members set apart by truth
  • Be a “little flock”

Would it be acceptable to vote in this case or even apply for a position?

Recently at school, we have had elections for next year’s School Captains. The elections involved several students applying for a position and the whole grade voting. Would it be acceptable to vote in this case or even apply for a position?

God’s Word does forbid Christians to participate in the politics of this world—including the voting process, and, by extension, the seeking of political office. This also applies to offices relating to the student body of an educational institution. While such positions obviously do not carry the weight of governmental offices—in whom are vested the power to make decisions impacting vast numbers of people, on many different issues and levels—generally speaking, there is competition—and all its inherent problems.

The environment and atmosphere created by politics on the campus level is comparable to the governmental politics of this world. Even school politics includes self-promotion and other wrong habits and practices. Involvement in these activities could lead to voting and other forms of participation in the political system, with all of its competition, mudslinging, corruption, etc.

If student body leadership positions were granted by appointment, without the “circus” of the political process, such involvement would be acceptable for youth in God’s Church. Those who are striving to obey God should not run for a position in school elections, or vote in such elections.
