A Gentleman Should…

• Care about the way he looks. He keeps his shoes shined. He always strives for quality in dress.
• Be polite and use manners. Strive to make a habit to say, “please” and “thank you”; “yes, ma’am” and “yes, sir.” Although basic, many have never been taught this habit, or have grown out of it.
• Open doors for ladies. This is a simple rule, but one that is often forgotten. A lady will appreciate the gesture. If there are multiple doors, open them all, one after the other.
• Not interrupt others in conversation. This is important when talking with those older than you, especially the elderly. Show others respect and become a good listener. Show them you care about what they are saying by not cutting in on them and interjecting your thoughts in the discussion.
• Be on time. This can often be the difference between a good or bad first impression. Make every attempt to keep your word whenever you tell someone you will meet them at a certain time.

A Lady Should…

• Always wear clothing appropriate for the occasion. When in doubt, ask for guidance from those who have more experience about suitable dress.
• Be well-read and knowledgeable about current events.
• Know how to host a dinner. She should also know how to gracefully accept, or decline, an invitation.
• Strike a balance between contributing to a conversation and dominating it. Have something to say, while giving those around you the opportunity to share their thoughts. Being a good listener goes a long way in showing you care for others.
• Know what to say and how to say it. Be aware of correct grammar and enunciation. Expand your vocabulary. Learn proper pronunciation. Find the specific areas you struggle with and be diligent to work on them.
