Have you noticed that if you have been sitting or lying down for some time and then suddenly jump to your feet, you can often get lightheaded? This is due to a lack of blood in your head. On the other extreme, if you stand on your head (which you probably don’t do often) for a long period of time, too much blood will go to your head and give you a headache.
Now imagine the complications a giraffe must face. First, the giraffe needs a very powerful pump to force the blood to its head, which is so very far from the rest of its body.
What would happen if, all of a sudden, that giraffe took a drink of water? The blood would suddenly rush toward its head, causing a brain aneurysm, which would instantly kill it. Yet this doesn’t happen, because the giraffe’s arteries are designed to sense an increase in pressure and instantly close down as soon as it lowers its head.
Now, what would happen when the giraffe would raise its head after drinking the water? Due to the force of gravity, the blood would rush down the neck and cause the giraffe to instantly pass out. Yet, this is not the case, because there is a sponge-like material, right behind the brain, that slowly gathers blood while the giraffe drinks. When the giraffe does raise its neck, the blood slowly enters the brain.
How awesome and inspiring are the creatures that God the Creator has made!
