Jesus said, “I will build My Church…†There is a single organization that teaches the entire truth of the Bible, and is called to live by “every word of God.†Do you know how to find it? Christ said it would:

  • Teach “all things†He commanded
  • Have called out members set apart by truth
  • Be a “little flockâ€

Responsibility 101

At every turn, AYC taught us responsibility, starting with the little things.

For example, we were instructed to make our beds every morning. If someone failed to complete this simple task, two consequences helped reinforce its importance. Obviously, the bed would look terrible compared to everyone else’s. Also, if we failed to keep our living spaces tidy, we would have to run up and down a hill so that we would never forget again!

Another responsibility that we had was to make sure to line up in an orderly manner. I realized this was important because a straight line reflected a neat appearance and set a good example for anyone who saw us.

Taking responsibility for items was also emphasized at camp. This included making sure we knew where our notebooks and Bibles were for morning lectures and that we had pens to use for writing.

Even just making the choice to keep track of my water bottle was important.

Because I did not want to lose it, I put the bottle in a specific place every night so I could always find it. When we went various places, I made sure it was always in my hand. I also had to put water in it every morning and tried to fill it up whenever I had the chance. I knew having an empty water bottle would not be helpful for me.

While a water bottle might seem as though it is a simple item to be responsible for, learning to keep track of it taught me to be more detail-oriented, which will help me take on bigger responsibilities as I grow older.

It is really important to be responsible with little things, not just for the good results they bring, but also for the good example it is to other people. Throughout camp, learning to make my bed, clean up messes, and put meal trays in the right stack were all good habits that I could take home with me.

After I leave AYC, I will always try to remember to pay attention to the little things. No matter how small they are, they can always help you learn to be more responsible.
